Wine labels

I actually don't know anything about wine so I've looked through the internet for examples of wine labels. Below are the ones that interest me.

Looking at these examples I've discovered that wine labels doesn't really have to come in rectangular shapes.
They could come in any shapes and sizes. With those wine labels, I kinda love the idea that some of them uses the actual colour of the wine as part of their design.

WINE LABELS

Here are my wine bottles

From the picture of the conveyor belt, I've chosen its most interesting part and that to me is shown below

(The part that shows the unique shape/form of Yo!Sushi's conveyor belt)

This design will be shrink wrapped
My designs for direct mail and menu are quite bright so I guess my design for wine labels will be bright as well. I know I have said this before, but I'm going to say it again, inorder for my designs to corporate and always have a connection with my mural, I am consistently be having polaroids to my designs. That's why for my wine label, I've got polaroid as its main feature.I’ve also decided to have a panel on this design because I think it would look better if the something is holding the polaroid than just having the polaroid on its own.

The handwritten note on the polaroid will indicate the type of wine that the bottle is. Following my theme, this would go handwritten.

I've decided that images that goes in the polaroids are pictures of wine showing its richness. Initially, these were supposed to be something like a night out with friends and family or pictures of youngsters partying in a club, drinking wine. But to keep my wine label and menu together I've chosen to have these images instead. Another reason for this is, I want entice people to buy/drink the wines.

So I think Rose wine will go pink,

Red wine will go red,

then White wine will go golden yellowy

So the idea here is for each bottle, I’m gonna have different pictures and different coloured labels.I think this design maintains my theme quite nicely.

My menu (post#30)

So here's my menu.

I went for a strong colour for the cover because I want it to appear very visible and keep it corporate with my direct mail's cover. I was actually planning on putting text like "Come and be a part of an exciting dining experience..." but then, I later realised that by the time people got this menu, they are already inside Yo!Sushi London restaurant, therefore, I don't need to sell it.

I've also decided to have pictures of Yo!Sushi meals
so that customers would have a little preview of how enticing Yo!Sushi meals are.

I actually want to have something that defines the pages of my menu so I've decided to have a pannel on the edge of each pages. The purpose of these pannels are not just entirely for the visual look of the menu but to categories its different sections. For example, desserts would have a purple pannel on the edge of the page while sushis would have green.

Just like what I've written in my sketchbook, since the pages that got polaroids have the names of each dish in handwritten form, I'll also have the names of drinks (i.e. "Asahi") in handwritten style as well.

All inside pages are working on same grid system that's why page(s) with less than 7 polaroids, will going to have a bit of space on the left hand side (where rivet is going to be).

In terms of deciding which colour to use for each page, at first I was thinking of using the corporate colours of Yo!Sushi. But then I've decided not to, as this might confuse people. Londoners might think that on this
menu, meals are categorised according to their price. Therefore for each page, I just chose a colour  that blends well with the pictures of Yo!Sushi meals.I think this is ok as it will still make my menu look trendy.

It would also look interesting if I'll have the last polaroid touching the pannel.

For the cover, I think it is logical to have a pannel  as well because it would sort of saying that the inside pages are going to have block end.

Going back to the inside pages, pages that show 2 groups of meals will be divided by a heavier coloured line.

Pages, occupied by 1 group of meal will be in same of color. So that people would know that these pages are covered by one group of meal.

So the idea is, each menu pages are going to be in different colours. The back of these will just be in plain colour because I don't want to overdo it.

If you've noticed, I've changed the background image of the pages. Before, I got the below image as background.

Now, the background image is picture of Yo!Sushi meals on the conveyor belt.

The first one is alright but it is not good enough.Probaby because from the original picture of this, haven't thought of choosing the portion that is most interesting for the background.

It is actually the food that makes Yo!Sushi distinctive from all other brands and not their dinner ladies. If I have a chance to make some changes on my direct mail, I will also change the background image and replace it with the one that I'm using now.

My menu (post#29)

Just what I've mentioned before, when it comes to my menu, direct mail and wine labels, I'll be consistently incorporating polaroids to my designs so that there will always have a connection with my mural and also to keep my designs corporate. This is why each pictures of Yo!Sushi dish that will go on my menu, will appear as polaroid photographs. Please refer to my sketchbook for my sketches.

Price of each meal is define through the colours of the plates. Therefore I've got to make sure that for each polaroid, the plate's colour is clearly visible.

I don't want my menu to be in an ordinary A4 size that's why I've decided that I'm going to have a set of  297mm x 105mm cards (1/2 of A4). Pages of my menu will be joined together by a rivet located at the upper left corner so that when Londoners are browsing through the pages, the whole thing forms a fan.

To keep my designs corporate (designs of direct mail & menu),I'm also gonna be using the colourised image of the conveyor belt for the background. I was actually a bit worried that it still might overpower the images of Yo!Sushi meals although I've already made it brighter, so I've still adjusted the brightness of it.

This page is actually working on a grid
Gridline is every 8cm
 Subdivisions:12
I want the polaroids to be close to each other and to appear a bit crowded.

The rivet will come at the upper left corner of the menu so I think the space that's been left over at the right hand side should be on the left.

I also think that it would look interesting if the last polaroid appear as if it goes slightly out of the page.

When I was looking at those grid lines, I suddenly came up of an idea of incorporating orange lines to my design.(I've chosen orange because it is one of the corporate colours of Yo!Sushi) These lines will serve as the division of the page just like in Yo!Sushi menu.

I actually don't have much to write about for each dish so I've decided to bring the polaroids and the descriptions down and have the name of the food category (i.e 'sashimi') at the bottom.

Just like the word "London" in my logo,
words like "sashimi", "iso", "desserts" will appear in slanting position in the menu.

For this one, I've cropped those orange lines because I don't want them to interfere with the word "sashimi".

So here's the first draft of my menu page.

Those lines will be kept throughout the menu for consistency

In addition to the colourful pictures of Yo!Sushi meals, I kinda love the way that the background image contributes in making the design contemporary. I think this is more relevant to Yo!Sushi because it is very trendy looking.

For this idea, I might change the colour of the background and lines for each page because I think it would look cool if they vary as people go through the menu pages.

In terms of the cover, I guess my menu's cover would look like this:

Since this is going to be the cover, I've chosen the to have it's background colour to be different from the inside pages'. And because my directmail's cover is pink I've also decided  to have it pink. This design is not finished yet though coz I'm still going to develop it further. Please refer to my sketchbook for my sketches & explanations.
